The Capuchin Crypt at the Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappucini near the Piazza Barberini.
This place was creepy yet fascinating. There are only six rooms, all hauntingly decorated with the bones of an estimated 4,000 Capuchin friars. Fun fact: the color of the Capuchin friars’ robes is where the name of the drink ‘cappucino’ comes from. The church was built by monks in 1631 and is meant to remind believers of the ephemeral nature of human life and the Resurrection of the body.Above: a photo of the Crypt of the Three Skeletons taken from Google. Below: a photo (also taken from Google) from over 200 years ago. Not much has changed.
